25th Anniversary Gift
When the 25th year of a marriage is being commemorated, it is always referred to as a silver anniversary. This tradition dates back to medieval times in Germany, when a couple celebrating 25 years of marital bliss is awarded a silver wreath by their friends and neighbors. Though the practice of giving away wreaths may not have caught on in the rest of the world in these modern times, many have found it only fitting to mark that milestone silver year of wedded prosperity with gifts made from the very substance it was named for.
Silver jewelry is always an ideal and traditional gift for a 25th wedding anniversary. Celebrate two and a half decades of blissful matrimony with a matching pair of silver rings for the happy couple; the rings’ perfect circle, no end and no beginning, symbolizing their limitless love for each other. There could be a romantic phrase or a favorite inspirational quote inscribed on the rings, or perhaps they might have the couple’s respective birthstones embedded upon them. There are other types of silver jewelry, such as earrings for the wife, or necklaces. Maybe even a silver locket to put a small picture of one’s significant other in.
For that matter, silver picture frames can also make good 25th anniversary gifts. Such gifts can be useful as well ornamental, like sterling silverware, mirrors or vases. Perhaps silver candle holders; perfect for a romantic anniversary dinner by candlelight. Modern anniversary gifts are often functional; silver watches, for instance. Among the items that wives can get for their husbands on the occasion of their 25th year include silver cuff links, tie tacks, belt buckles, key rings, money clips, or even shaving accessories. If looking to give gifts that are collectible, one may get silver collector coins or silver-cast figurines.
But just as silver has come to be a traditional symbol for the 25th anniversary, what else can signify the occasion more than the number 25 itself? This is where things get interesting, as getting a gift revolving around that number goes beyond just buying something; one would also have to use their imagination and their sense of romance. It is of course easiest to say it with flowers; and a bouquet of 25 roses (perhaps 25 assorted flowers) speaks volumes. Exercise some creativity; perhaps write a poem detailing the 25 things that one loves about their spouse. Compile a silver-plated photo album filled with 25 years-worth of happy memories. Or better yet, blow-up 25 of the couple’s best photos to portrait size, one for each year, and set up a sort of gallery celebrating their many wonderful years together. The possibilities are endless; or at the very least, number more than 25.
There are many who believe that a true love that stands the test of time is extremely rare in this day and age. If such is the case, then the 25th wedding anniversary is truly an occasion that is worth celebrating. The symbols we have come to associated with it are quite appropriate; a brightly-shimmering love shared by two people, as pure and durable as silver. The gifts showered in commemoration can be quite valuable, but their value pales in comparison to the celebration of the blessed union for which they are given. 25 years of marriage is a landmark event; and if the couple plays their cards right, it is only the beginning of the rest of their forever.
