The Clock Pendulum
The pendulum installed is torsion. Unlike the flat pendulum disc, the torsion makes a twirling motion. Some clocks with flat pendulum discs are also called anniversary clocks. In fact, only those with torsion pendulums belong in that category. The torsion suspension spring in these models are set in a hanging position.
Spring
The torsion spring is used to suspend the pendulum. The spring is a wire that moves in a specific direction. It starts moving in a clockwise manner and then counterclockwise.
There are four components in the suspension spring. The first component is the spring. On the spring is a brass block. At the top of this the whole spring is suspended. This makes it one of the most important of all 400 day clock parts.
The third part is another brass block. Set at the bottom of the spring, it is where the globes are attached to. The final piece is the fork attachment.
This is found in the upper center sector of the spring. It is the one that knocks the verge wire. The verge wire is that component that is sticking out of the escapement. By making the verge wire move back and forth, the unit will run continuously.
