Tips for Buying an Anniversary Clock Repair Kit
Repair tools are available in hardware stores. Some of the most essential tools will be keys and suspensions in varying sizes. Forks and blocks may also come in handy.
A clock hand remover will be needed to get the gears and hands off without damaging them. Screwdriver sets and a micrometer will also be needed. To replace the springs, needle nose pliers will be needed.
How to Fix the Suspension Spring
The spring is the thin piece of steel at the rear of the clock. A bent spring will keep the clock from running.
Step 1
Use the micrometer to measure the spring thickness. Order a spring that is of the same size. If you have a replacement spring but it is too thick, trim the spring as needed. Make sure the length is the same. Do not make it too short or long. Otherwise, the pendulum balls will be too short or long. This will keep the balls from working.
Step 2
Remove the spring with a screwdriver. Take out the fork and blocks and install the blocks on the spring. Secure it in place with the nose pliers. Hold the block so it does not wobble.
Step 3
Connect the fork by fastening it to the spring. Hold the spring in the clock. Calculate where the fork has to go. The fork should be able to set the verge wire back and forth.
Step 4
Put the spring back in the clock. Follow the user manual to get the unit running again. If the repair is done right, the clock should start running.
Tips
The suspension repair is the most common problem with these clocks and they are easy to repair. But if the problem is difficult to handle, take the device to a qualified repairman.
If you are going to do anniversary clock repairs, make sure that you handle the components with care. Make certain you work in a clear workspace so no components are lost.
